* no clue, since I have yet to ever be able to download from rapidshare… always the servers are over the limit.
So, tell me who you want me to use.
In other words, looking for a Spanish->English translator to help me with subbing High School Musical: El Desafio, Argentinan version.

I speak fluent Spanish too. Just Fyi.
Though to be fair, in Argentina it’s Castellano, which is a tad different, but I speak that too.
p.s.: Good to see you’re back
omg i love you <3
last time i checked “castellano” was a word that comes from “castilla” wich is the place in spain where spanish was created, my spanish teacher says that castellano and spanish can both be used to call the language
(I speak spanish too, but i’m not interesting in subbing any high school musical stuff)
Argentina has a slightly different dialect.
I have the same problem as Shami when it comes to Victor1139’s encode. Can’t check it out, because the servers are always full. As for gavers and Yuki.N, how come you guys don’t have both the OP and ED included? Plus to gavers for including the OP. Have yet to check out the difference in video quality. Will post my oppinion on that in a little while. Oh, and Shamisen, as PhantomCaller said, it is indeed good to have you back. I sure hope you won’t dissapear again right away, and not come back for two more months. ;D
Option 1: Feels odd having both the full opening and the mini opening together. Is that how it was on the DVD?
Option 2: it’s all squashed up, and doesn’t have the full opening
Option 3: Can’t get it working. We need someone with a rapidshare premium (or sheer luck) to mirror it somewhere else. I’ll keep trying though.
The only thing is, I feel that the full opening with each episode may be a bit much. Considering each episode is only 4/5 minutes (less for the later Achakura ones) perhaps it should be the same as the original releases. The full opening and ending seporate, then the mini OP and EDs with the episodes. I’d prefer it like that, I don’t know about anyone else.
Finally got it downloaded.
Uploaded everywhere for your convenience:

thanks for doing this
gavers DOES have an anamorphic encode (the actual AR needs to be set though, but that’s simple): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8RK9JP7H. It was in his comment in the last news post.
As for chapters, we can always add those in later.
As for the OP/ED, I’d think it’d be beneficial to do something with ordered chapters. It’s the same thing over and over again, and this way, we can save a ton of space. Also, it’d save people from having to click the “Next chapter” button in their player every time a new episode starts if they don’t want to see it by just moving the file to another folder or something. I also find it weird that, as Peter said above, there’s both the opening song and the mini-opening; same thing would apply to the ending.
Nice to see some signs of life from you again.
Oh and I forgot to mention, based on what they said in the comments from before, they all said that they’d like to make new encodes. Maybe get them to get those out before comparing?
I take back what I said about the OP being a plus…I agree with Peter. It’s weird to watch the full opening and then the mini opening afterward. I DO like gavers’ resolution better though, and it is a tiny bit better video quality wise, since it’s a tiny bit more “clear” (sorry if that’s the wrong word for it. English is my second language, and not my first). They are both more than good enough in that aspect though. However, I noticed that the sound quality in gavers’ encode is not up to par with YukiN’s (I use a headset, so this is something I notice, and care about), or the sound quality in Shamisen’s original release of the episode for that matter (the non-DVD one), so I actually like Yuki.N’s version better. Now, thanks to Peter’s upload (thanks dude), I was able to check out Victor’s encode, and he has my vote. The same great video quality as in gavers release, and the same (I think. If not it’s very close) resolution, and it has clear audio like in Yuki.N’s release. I agree with PhantomCaller. At the moment Victor’s release is the best choice. But if they all want to make another encode like Blah says, then who knows.
Can you please wait for just 3 days before you decide?
Coz I decided to stop video encoding temporarily for my exams.
Todays the first day so I’ll be absent here for 3 days.
This is very important for me..
just wait for 3 days and I’ll be back with encoding.
okie
my best choice would be Victor’s, although I prefer not having the full OP sequence go with it. Just stick to the old format.
I haven’t tried the others yet, but gavers is fail for me. QuickTime 7 says “an invalid sample description was found in the movie,” QuickTime X plays it without audio, and the PS3 plays it without audio.
Odd. I managed to play all of them in Quicktime without issue. Though I downgraded to the previous version of Perian cos the latest has all sorts of issues with mkvs, maybe you upgraded without realising?
Peter: Do you use Mac? I do, and I can’t play .mkv-files in QuickTime. Which Perian version do you use? I use the 1,2 version, and the problem is that the video plays really slowly, but the audio is in the right speed. Don’t seem to have any problems with subtitles, though. Is that similar to your problems? Do I need to downgrade Perian? Thanks on beforehand!
Glad to see that you’re back, Shamisen!
Yeah. I had countless problems with 1.2. I downgraded to 1.1.4 and I’m lovin’ it! XD
With 1.2, I was unable to play most MKVs. It would either show a white screen for the whole video, or just plain not play.
I uploaded it the old version for you: http://www.multiupload.com/PDWIWVB61V
Uninstall the old version first.
Hmmm, i like Gaver’s encode – Practically perfect
Yuki.n’s encode seems to have a resolution problem
Victor1139’s encode is also very gud, almost identical to Gaver’s in quality
Actually, they are both practically identical, as you say, but Victor’s version has better sound. Oh, and “foo”, “Peter”, “Charbutsu”, if you use a crappy program like Quicktime to play anime, then you only have yourself to blame, and not gavers. I’m surprised you haven’t picked up on this yet, but, it’s a well known fact that if you want to properly watch all anime without any problems, then the CCCP codec pack+Media Player Classic is the only way to go. There’s nothing wrong with gavers encode. I played it just fine in both VLC and Media Player Classic.
You obviously haven’t twigged that we’re using Macs. Quicktime on Windows is useless. Quicktime on Mac is the equivalent to Media Player Classic after you’ve applied Perian (the Mac equivalent to CCCP).
The only issue with Perian is that the latest version (version 1.2) breaks some MKV playback. But it’s fixed by going back to the previous version.
Also, VLC is goddamn awful. It crashes loads and can’t do subtitles properly.
Ah, ok, lol, sorry. ^^’ Didn’t realize that. I hate Mac though. They’re better than a regular PC as a workstation, but they’re useless as an entertainment computer. Oh, and btw, I agree with you that VLC sucks monkey balls. The player uses its own codecs too, so it doesn’t really matter what codecs you have installed on your computer. The only reason I use VLC alot now is because I can’t get good volume on my headset when watching anime otherwise…if I could just use Media Player Classic all the time (I do use it occasionally), then my worries would be over, but the sound just gets too low on my headset…
Actually i just noticed that Gaver’s has a bit better quality (When haruhi is smacking the floor with Mikuru and the fire ring), but one odd thing is that my windows media player 11 registered gaver’s encode with 28:17 minutes but only plays up to 5 minutes (paueses indefinitly after 5 mins)
Anyways gavers is gud, just need to fix that problem or i need to refix my codecs.
Well it looks like some progress is being made. I don’t care what encoder you choose because i don’t have that good of a quality eye. So I’m fine with anyone.
How to release them however, I want you to release them like you did before. Adding the op and ed to every episode just looks bad with the mini op and ed in each episode. Not to mention it adds to the file size.
Gavers and Yuki’s encodes are very good but I am sort of leaning towards Yuki at this time (AR needs to be tweaked but that is it) Well done everyone especially Shamisen in doing this for the masses.
sorry about rapidshare, i always use it and have no problems but i guess its because here in venezuela not much people download stuff from there so the servers don’t reach the limit
It’s okay.
If you join the crew, you’ll get access to a private FTP to upload to. ;D
haha, yeah. I noticed the only time I’m able to grab anything from rs is from about 11PM to 3AM (USC) the rest of the time the server is busy. Megaupload ftw, although MediaaFire is my favorite since you can save files to your account and it’s totally free.
